What People are Saying about Velvets

AMACO Velvets Fire True to Color and Can Be Applied to Greenware
When Mixed and Layered, Velvets Create Hundreds of Colors!

Even potters who formulate their own glazes cannot duplicate AMACO Velvet Underglazes! Their saturated color, dependability and versatility make them as popular for pros as they are for children in school or contemporary studios. That’s because AMACO Velvets offer two finish possibilities: When left unglazed they have the rich, textural appearance of velvet. When covered with AMACO Clear Transparent Matt or Clear Gloss glaze, they intensify in color. Velvets can be intermixed and layered to create unlimited colors! Their firing range is so versatile that firing at temperatures for the clay produces opaque coverage.

Designer Velvets are semi-translucent underglazes with the same qualities as Velvets but with the addition of small specks. When left unglazed, Designer Velvets assume the appearance of velvet with a soft speckle effect. When glazed with AMACO Transparent Matt or Clear Gloss glaze, they intensify slightly in color.

“Brushing the great colors of AMACO Velvets thick and thin over any lichen glaze and firing just once is a fast way to a get a wonderful surface.”

- Lana Wilson, Professional Artist
