We formulate and manufacture 522 “AP” Non-Toxic LEAD FREE glazes intended for school use in grades K-12. In addition, we make another 64 “CL” LEAD FREE glazes suitable for use in grades 7-12+ with adult supervision. Please note: All “CL” (cautions required) glaze colors are prohibited for use in grades PreK-6.
All AMACO® glaze labeling features either the “AP” (Non-Toxic) seal or the “CL” (cautions required) seal of the Art and Creative Materials Institute, Inc. (ACMI). These seals are your assurance that the product was evaluated by an independent toxicologist and labeled according to ASTM D-4236/LHAMA—the federal standard for safe labeling of art materials.
We certify that AMACO only ships LEAD FREE products in compliance with the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008.

Lead Free Glazes & Underglazes
AMACO manufactures 586 LEAD FREE glazes, underglazes, and overglazes with firing ranges from Cone 022 to Cone 5. Many colors will also fire to Cone 10. Each glaze or underglaze series offers its own unique appearance giving the artist unlimited creative expression.
AMACO makes 522 LEAD FREE Glazes that bear the AP Non Toxic Seal for use in grades K-6 and above. AMACO also manufactures an additional 64 LEAD FREE glazes for use in grades 7-12 (and above) with adult supervision with the CL seal (Cautions Labeled) that are restricted from use preK-6. These seals from the Art & Creative Materials Institute (ACMI) are in accordance with federal standards ASTM D-4236/LHAMA for safe labeling.
All AMACO glazes currently in production are labeled to indicate their suitability for use on food or drink containers. 435 AMACO Glazes are certified dinnerware-safe through independent laboratory testing in order to meet FDA Guidelines. When AMACO dinnerware-safe glazes, such as LG-10 Clear Transparent, are used over other AMACO underglazes on pottery, such containers also become dinnerware-safe.
