The pink ribbon signifies breast cancer. But there is a variety of types of cancers and a rainbow of colors that represent many. As Jeanne Havel wrote, "Teal represents Ovarian Cancer/ Navy is for Colon Cancer/ Carolina Blue for Prostrate Cancer/ Black, Melanoma/ Red, Blood-related Cancers/ White, Lung Cancer/ Grey, Brain Cancer.

How "Bottles of Hope" Wins
The top 25 entries will all receive Amaco® gifts while the top 3 winners will win a $250 donation in their name to the cancer prevention and research charity of their choice. Winners will also receive a valuable Amaco® gift certificate. After the "Bottles of Hope" reception, a donation to the American Cancer Society will be made by AMACO in honor of all participants in the "Bottles of Hope" Designers Challenge and for every retailer who drops off a business card at CHA booth #3735. Let's make the donation as large as possible, so please participate. Children and grandchildren's entries are also welcome. The "Bottles of Hope" generated from your efforts will be given to an hospital, the recipient is yet to be announced as details are being worked out. As soon as that recipient can be announced, another e-blast will go out to our Designer's E-Newsletter list. Thank you for making this Designer's Challenge a success for a wonderful and inspired grassroots movement of impeccable integrity. The Indianapolis area director for the American Cancer Society approved AMACO's participation for the national organization based on the innovative guild program called "Bottles of Hope."

Be sure to let Lisa Pavelka know if you plan to participate.

Press Release For Bottles of Hope Designer's Challenge

Amaco is sponsoring a “Bottles of Hope” Designers Challenge which will culminate in an on-line gallery of the top 25 entries as voted by the Indianapolis chapter of the National Polymer Guild. Then, those top 25 will be judged on-line by editors and publishers in the crafts industry for CHA Winter 2007 announcement in Anaheim with a reception on January 29. Entries must be received no later than January 5th.

“Bottles of Hope” was started in 1999 by cancer survivor Diane Gregoire as a way to bring hope and cheer to others afflicted with cancer. Being a polymer clay artist, Diane covered empty medication bottles, being disposed of during her Chemotherapy treatments, with her own polymer designs. She returned the decorated bottles she to nurses for gifting to other cancer patients. Her gifts of “Bottles of Hope” were so well received that she began a program in which cancer patients could create their own bottles. Numerous polymer clay guilds throughout the country have started their own “Bottles of Hope” programs. Some are active in fund raising for cancer research and treatment with their programs. Bottles are never sold themselves.

In recognition of the importance of this program, Amaco is inviting anyone of any age to create “Bottles of Hope” for submission in this Challenge. All but the three winning bottles will be distributed to a charity of choice by the Indianapolis chapter of the National Polymer Guild, as Indianapolis is the hometown of AMACO®. The three winning bottles will be available as a traveling exhibit for retailers or other groups interested in sponsoring their own events.

The top 25 finalists will be posted on-line on the Amaco website (www.amaco.com) on CHA’s opening day, January 28, and will be on display at the Amaco booth (#3735) at the Craft & Hobby Association convention in Anaheim, California (January 28-32, 2007). Top editors and invited guest judges will select the winning bottles in the categories of Most Original and Best Use of Amaco Product before the show. The category of Designer’s Choice will be chosen by ballot from attendees of CHA where the bottles will be on display. Winners will be announced at a booth reception planned for January 29, 2007, from 11:00 am – 12:00 noon over the lunch hour.
