American Art Clay Company - The Business of Crafts and Creativity

The Business of Crafts and Creativity
It would be wonderful to just be able to sit and throw pots or design things all day without the worry of ordering the clay and other material, getting the equipment in and set up, mixing the clay, firing it in the kiln and getting the finished piece to the customer. It doesn't matter if you are a hobbyist or if you have an established business as a potter or crafts artist and have a staff to run your business, you need to buy equipment. Also, if you're interested in pursuing the business of clay or arts and crafts, whether you are a potter or a bead maker, you may find this interesting and informative.

From finding great clay and other materials available on line for a great price to finding the used laboratory equipment for checking your ph levels for a great price, setting up and running a business requires some research and due diligence. There is a lot to consider including how many different types of clay, glass, mold making material, packing materials and other resources you desire to carry in stock. How many finished products will you carry, are you a custom order shop or do you keep an inventory of the most popular pieces? How long will the customer wait for an order to be fulfilled? What can I do by machine verses by hand? If by machine, there are several pieces of used processing equipment that you may deem necessary for your business to run efficiently. Whether you're starting a new business or building up an established one, used equipment may be the answer to how to keep your inventory under control.

The more products you automate, the more equipment you'll need. The market in used equipment could save you a considerable amount of money depending on your business. For instance, you will certainly need a wheel and a kiln if you're going to be a potter, even as a hobbyist. For those taking it a step further and wanting to sell their work, you need to think about how to get your product to market or to the end customer. The finer your work as an artist, whether in clay or glass, the more concern you will have for shipping the product safely. If you're looking for ways to automate, this may include a used wrapper machine to wrap either the product or to wrap the box you're shipping in. Wrapping your masterpiece up as nicely as possible also lends more credibility to your name. Other used packaging equipment may be needed also depending on the type of business you are in. If you are mass producing beads, you may need to figure out ways to package that keep them safe in transit yet keep your costs to a minimum. Whatever you end up designing and creating, making a business of it requires an eye of finances and business savvy. If you have deep pockets and unlimited of funds, then you won't need to worry too much but if you're limited on monetary support, looking for bargains in materials and machinery may be worth your time and effort.
