Ceramics and kiln formed glass seem logically entwined, from the similar chemical make-up of materials to the core functions of electric kiln, the mediums alchemy cross over in a variety of ways. As contemporary artists and educators began to explore these two mediums simultaneously the one hindrance in research is that there is no one commercial supplier to go to for product support in both mediums. Recognizing this need along with a strong commitment to providing accurate safety information and quality products AMACO is striving to fulfill the ceramic and glass Artists/Educators with equipment, supplies, and education.
Beginning with George Debikey and continuing with Steve Lampron, AMACO pursues experimentation and research in glass processes to gain more knowledge about our products. Recently Steve Lampron has been conducting fusing, slumping, and casting experiments that will benefit innovative new equipment and products in 2009. Mr. Lampron states that he is first and foremost an engineer, but he is also an artist; working collaboratively with the lab staff, Jess Hall and Michael Sprage, the work shown is not only data producing experiments but beautiful works of art. These works push the boundaries of our glass and kilns but also show off the intrinsic beauty of glass as an art form.
